When The Spirit Isn't There

A friend who reads this blog says that I was a little bit unfair about my review of ELF, saying that it is not the show's fault that I don't feel Christmass-y yet, and perhaps I didn't give it a fair shot. True. I really did like the music of the show a lot, and it would be cool to revisit it, but I don't think I will. There are just too many shows out there to see to repeat something. Plus, I am sure as the season nears, tickets won't be as plentiful on TDF, if it even shows up again there.  To warm up the Holiday spirit in me, I made a playlist on my iTunes  of yuletide songs from this season's new albums, and I really must say that my new favorite Christmas song is Mariah Carey's "Christmastime Is In The Air Again," and in my mind Rosemary Clooney is singing it, and the arrangement has been enhanced by Nelson Riddle. Oh, Christmas dreams - aren't they great?

Speaking of old-fashioned, I just saw via Netflix "Love Ranch," that movie earlier this year starring Helen Merrin. The movie is just meh, but I was mesmerized by Dame Helen's performance. I swear, she gives gravita even to the slightest fo movies. And at her age she still smolders sex appeal. A thousand Paris Hiltons would be no match to her. And I love that this movie featured vocals by the wondrous Keely Smith - a nice touch to pay tribute to the singers of the classic Vegas era (that's when the movie was set)

It is in falling down
that we learn almost everything
that matters spiritually.
