Auntie Fedy

I woke up this morning to some sad news: my Auntie Fedy (my father's sister) passed away Sunday morning manila time. She had breast cancer which spread last year to other organs. I had known that she was at the hospital in critical condition, and I guess it just got worse. My cousin did say that she died peacefully, and that's good to hear.

I will miss her. There was a time I was pretty close to her when she was here in the US, and she was certainly a character in the best (and sometimes worst) sense of the word. She was also a great cook (a chemist by education) and she made the best kare-kare I have ever tasted.

Last night, before I slept, I said a prayer for her, not knowing that perhaps at that time she had already passed away. may you rest in peace, Auntie Fedy.

Gentleness: Lord, we remember that when you were on earth you dealt gently with all those who came to you with their needs. You did not judge them or condemn their faults but gently and compassionately listened, and were able to lead them into a new way of living and thinking.

Dear God, help us to be just as gentle with all those we come into contact with today. May we show a spirit of compassion and consideration, particularly to those we find difficult and annoying, remembering that they are all your children and made in your likeness. Perhaps our gentleness will help them to think of you.
