Like I Never Said Goodbye

There was threat of a huge delay. My flight back was supposed to leave EWR at 3 p.m. but when I got to the gate there was a sign that it was delayed, and due to leave at 4:15.  Weather related delay, they announce, as I look at the darkening sky. These summer storms, oh how I have kind of missed them (not!) but my flying fairy has been good to me so i just sit down and try to digest the situation. It's not the worst situation one can have. I just start reading via Kindle, and get very engrossed. Close to four, the plane we are supposed to be on which is coming from Houston, finally arrives. I think, there is no way we would leave by 4:15 p.m.  But, they disembark the arriving flight fairly quickly, and we start lining up, and before I knew it, we were taxiing out. There is a wait of course because of all the congestion, and I finish my rosary and close my eyes. I feel us take off, and try to mentally calculate how long we are delayed now, and if I will ever make the connecting flight in Chicago. Mid flight, the flight attendants take our information, and she says that our planes probably will be held for our flight to make connections and sure enough, the pilot announces that my connecting flight will be held. I run out as soon as we arrive in Chicago, and line up for my flight across the gate we come out of. Sum total: it's like nothing ever happened, we arrive the time we were supposed to. I like Southwest Airlines  they do their system stress-free, and it's my first time, in fact, since they only started flying out of Newark April of this year. I rest easy last night, and today work was work. I am back like I never said goodbye.
